Help deliver original, trusted news to Bath, Highland & Alleghany counties—every day.
Local news is essential—help keep it alive.

The Recorder, established in 1877, is the newspaper of record serving scenic Bath, Highland, and Alleghany counties in Virginia. Since our founding, we’ve been honored with the state’s highest award for journalistic integrity and community service—and in 2024 we received Press Forward’s Closing Local Coverage Gaps grant.
